The SEM-REV team is expanding!

After a busy and successful year the SEM-REV team is expanding!

on November 7, 2018

So much has been achieved to date in 2018 at SEM-REV, including the first offshore installations and tests:

  • Installation of the first prototype (FLOATGEN),
  • Injection of the first MWh into the ENEDIS grid
  • Acoustics of the SEA (SEAc) project as part of FORESEA
  • Testing of FMGC shells as part of FORESEA

As well as:

  • Participation as a test facility within the THeoREM research infrastructure
  • The launch of new calls for projects within the framework of the FORESEA and MarineT2 funding programmes
  • Participation in major MRE conferences: EERA DeepWind, Ocean Energy Europe, Seanergy / ICOE, FWP Atlantic Forum
  • Participation in the Marine Energy Alliance

Léna Héry joined the team in August ...

Léna joined the SEM-REV in August as seabed-to-surface engineer. After graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree in Materials Science at UTC, and a Master's degree in Marine Renewable Energy at ENSTA Bretagne, Léna worked as a modelling engineer on floating wind turbines at EOLINK. In this context, she took part in designing a 1:10 scale floating wind turbine prototype, launched in April 2018 at the IFREMER test site in Sainte-Anne du Portzic. At SEM-REV, her main role is to set up an operations monitoring methodology for the anchor lines and umbilicals of floating wind turbines or wave energy systems. This methodology will improve the maintenance of anchor lines and umbilicals and, in the longer term, their design. The work will combine numerical modelling and analysis of experimental results. Léna will thus be working on land and offshore.

...followed by Hélèna Erussard in October

Hélèna joined the team in October as an electrical and automation engineer. After her studies in electricity and mechanics at ENSEM in Nancy and a final-year internship at STX France Solutions on the offshore electrical substations in Saint Nazaire, Hélèna followed a Master's degree in Marine Renewable Energy at ENSTA Bretagne in Brest. During her Master's degree she undertook an internship at Entech in Quimper, where she worked on the study of a levelling system for wave power production through an innovative storage technology. Her studies complete, she has now joined the SEM-REV team! She is tasked with the pending arrival of the S3 wave energy system, which will require a certain number of adjustments on site. She will be working on sizing the wave energy connection so that it can be powered and then generate energy, while respecting the constraints of the SEM-REV electrical network. Hélèna will also be involved in the development of the site's operating tools (electrical modelling, measurement, control etc) with the aim of continuous site improvement.

A team of thirteen, ten years after the test site's launch

After more than 10 years of work and research, the milestones achieved this year only serve to confirm the need for and purpose of a test site like SEM-REV. These results and the perspectives they offer are obviously the result of teamwork. The recruitment of new staff is evidence that the site is developing further. The SEM-REV team now has 13 people "navigating" between the Centrale Nantes Campus and the Le Croisic premises located in Penn Avel Parc, on the coast facing the test site.
