FLOATGEN
,
First evacuation exercise by helicopter on a wind turbine in France
On 24 March 2022, a first-ever evacuation exercise by helicopter from a floating wind turbine (FLOATGEN) took place on the SEM-REV offshore test site in France. This exercise in real conditions required cooperation between CROSS Etel, the Sécurité Civile, the SNSM, BW Ideol and Centrale Nantes.

Risk prevention is critical in the field of Marine Renewable Energies (MRE). Evacuation drills during offshore operations on floating wind turbine demonstrators give all players involved the opportunity to test the emergency response and help ensure that this growing sector is fully prepared.
For this evacuation exercise, the
CROSS Etel
, the
Sécurité Civile
, the SNSM, BW Ideol and Centrale Nantes defined a hypothetical potential scenario: operator injury during a maintenance operation on the offshore wind turbine.
The PIM FLOATGEN (Maritime Intervention Plan) was triggered and the emergency response got underway. The specific characteristics of a floating wind turbine during a helicopter evacuation could thus be assessed via this exercise in real conditions, in particular those of the Floatgen project float concept developed by BW Ideol, in order to prepare possible medical evacuations by air.
